There was a time in my life when I spent a significant chunk of every month [traveling for work](https://kelfordinc.com/this-makes-content-luxurious-kelford-labs-daily/).

I would spend a few days, sometimes weeks, flying around the world to various clients’ properties and offices for strategy meetings, tours, and agency summits. Then, I’d land back home for two or three days before setting out again.

It was all so habitual that “travel” wasn’t really a chore or a task. I never had to “pack” because I never really unpacked, and I just bought multiples of everything. I’d arrive home, do laundry, refill toiletries as needed, and head back out.

**I bring this up for two reasons:**

1) I’m going to be traveling extensively next month, for the first time in a few months, and boy oh boy is it a *chore* to get ready for

2) I took a few days off from this newsletter and getting back into it has, so far, been *rough*

**You think when you break a habit you retain everything you know, but it’s not really like that. You can kind of forget how to do it.**

As a kid I was a newspaper carrier (the term being “paper boy” at the time) and I rode my bicycle for several kilometres every day. But I know for a fact that you *do* kind of forget how to ride a bike if you haven’t done it in a couple decades.

You do kind of forget how to travel if you haven’t done it in a few months.

**You do kind of forget how to make content if you haven’t done it in a few days.**

Which means two more things:

1) Try not to break the habit if you can avoid it

2) If you do miss a few days, it’s okay that it’s tough to start up again

**Habits break immediately but** [**start slowly**](https://kelfordinc.com/daily-lab-marketing-is-formed-not-started/)**, every time.**

Getting back into the groove takes its own effort, and I’m telling you this as a way of telling myself.

So don’t stress, just be patient with yourself.

**The important part is that you started again, not that it was difficult.**

So keep up your content if you can. And if you can’t, pace yourself when you [start it back up again](https://kelfordinc.com/re-starting-marketing-kelford-labs-weekly/).

This helped me, and I hope it helps you, too.
