# You can’t steer standing still — Kelford Labs Daily

For most expert advisors, marketing [optimization is usually procrastination](https://kelfordinc.com/optimization-as-procrastination-kelford-labs-weekly/).

Because the people most obsessed with optimizing are usually the ones whose marketing isn’t even off the ground yet.

But they’re buying software, they’re implementing dashboards, they’re building custom automations, they’re slopping out AI content.

Sure, none of it is working, but boy does it ever *feel* like work, right?

**But the whole thing of it is that marketing is a *performance*, it isn’t a *statistic*.**

Marketing *creates* data, but it is not found *in* the data.

So if our marketing is struggling or stalled, the last thing in the world we need is another tool or tech stack.

We need to get results so we know what we’re measuring and what we’re optimizing for.

We must get it working, get it up and running, and then optimize to our heart’s content.
