When you write a nearly-daily email newsletter, you tend to:
1) Mention it a lot
2) Get asked, “How do you have so many ideas?” when you mention it
I mean, much of that is people just being polite, but for the ones who actually want to know, the answer is fairly simple:
I ask myself questions.
What I’ve learned is that everyone has a lot to say if you ask them the right question. People have really strong feelings, beliefs, and mental models for their work, and the trick is to prompt them the right way to get at their explanations.
I spend hours and hours every week interviewing my clients, extracting from their minds and lifetimes of experience what sets them apart. What makes them unique.
Which is also what makes them interesting. Which makes their marketing that much better.
I just... ask myself the same questions. And it helps reveal ideas and thoughts I otherwise wouldn’t have had, which is content I wouldn’t have created.
So if you want to have marketing content ideas, remember:
You’re not looking for an answer. You’re looking for a question.
So here’s one:
What’s the classic mistake most businesses in your industry make, and how did you learn to avoid it?
The answer to that question, my friends, is what we in the marketing business call content.
Kelford Inc. is the marketing team that’s never at a loss for words. If you’re struggling with what to say and where to say it to attract ideal clients, we’ll show you the way.
