What’s stopping your content?
I don’t ask that in a judgy way, I swear. I ask it sincerely, and, believe me, understandingly.
Sometimes, the marketing just... stops, right? You know you’re “supposed” to be on LinkedIn, but, ugh, do you have to?
Or maybe you were supposed to launch that newsletter last year, but, well, things got busy and here you are and here it isn’t, right?
But what’s holding you back? What’s been stopping you?
I suspect at least a little bit of it is you’re not sure what to say.
I mean, setting up a newsletter doesn’t take very long (I say from abundant experience). Writing a newsletter on the other hand... well, that can take a while.
Scrolling through LinkedIn is easy (if aggravating), but that awful little text field won’t magically fill itself (I guess with ChatGPT it can, but that’s partially why it’s become so aggravating to read, right?).
Look, my best skill and worst trait is that I’m never at a loss for words, so let me offer this one small piece of advice:
If you want to have something to say, it helps to think about who you’re saying it to.
It helps to think about what they need to hear.
So don’t think about what you need to write in your newsletter, or what you have to post on LinkedIn.
Think about your ideal potential client, or your favourite current one. Put yourself in their shoes today, in their chair and on their phone or computer.
Imagine they’re about to see your marketing content.
And ask yourself, what do they need to hear?
Today, I thought you might need to hear that once you know what to say, everything else gets easier.
And that you don’t need to bully yourself because the marketing stopped, because this isn’t about you.
It’s about them.
And they don’t need you to judge yourself. They just need to hear from you.
