The point is doing, not done — Kelford Labs Daily

My pal Pranav posted on LinkedIn the other day, “Using AI to write is pointless because it’s the act of writing that changes me.”

I agreed, and commented, “Having AI do all your writing for you is like having someone play your video games or read your books for you. The benefit isn’t in having it done, it’s in doing it.”

I think that’s why I get a little frustrated when I see business owners, and specifically consultants and advisors, treat their marketing like it’s a task to get through or over with, instead of seeing it as intrinsically connected to the value they generate.

By doing your marketing, you make the thing you’re marketing better.

Because you get the feedback from the market on your marketing, which can and should influence the type of services you provide, and how you do so.

That doesn’t mean you can’t work with an outside marketing partner (or even use AI), but it does mean you should work with them closely.

And it should be your insights, experiences, and expertise that get demonstrated, not theirs.

So that when your marketing gets feedback, via popularity or even pushback, that can be reflected in the “real” work.

Because the point of marketing isn’t just in having it done.

It’s in doing it.
