You don’t have to catch up first.

You can just start again — Kelford Labs Daily

If they can, people tend to avoid annoying chores for as long as they reasonably can, right?

Now, I’m sure some people tackle everything as soon as it comes up and never fall behind on any of their tasks, and that’s wonderful for them.

But the rest of us don’t like doing the things we don’t like doing.

So we might put some things off until we have a backlog we need to catch up on, making those tasks ever so incrementally more difficult every time we avoid them.

For me, that’s usually some mundane but crucial task like processing receipts for expense reporting. Every time I decide it’s better done tomorrow, the more I have to do when I finally do it.

I’m guessing there are a few things in your work that might fit that description.

But the thing I want to remind you of today is that that’s only true of things that accumulate.

What I mean is, there are many things in work, and specifically in marketing, that don’t require you to “catch up” before you can get started again.

It might feel that way, that the longer you go without posting on LinkedIn, or writing that blog, or making that video, or starting that newsletter, the more you’ll have to do to get it going again.

But, no.

You can just start again.

There’s no backlog of marketing you didn’t do. There’s only what you can do next.

Receipts pile up if left undone, problems tend to worsen if avoided, and chores often expand when untouched.

But marketing tasks usually don’t. They’re merely missed opportunities. The next opportunity is still that, and still worth seizing.

So, remember:

You can just start again.

Do a super simple content exercise. Take a moment to think about what you and your audience need to hear today.

And just... start.
