The questions that make content easier — Kelford Labs Daily

Let me ask you something:

When’s the last time writing marketing content felt easy?

Like, when you went to write a LinkedIn post, or comment on someone else’s.

Or when you thought about your next newsletter, blog post, or update to your homepage copy.

Or that last ad or sponsorship opportunity, and you thought, “What should I say?”

Did any of that, does any of that, feel easy?

I bet, when it did, or when it does, it’s because your mind has been primed with a question, or an idea, that you’re at least partially excited to answer.

So, to make all your content easier, all you need to do (and I know this is still a lot) is prompt yourself with questions.

But where do those questions come from?

From your current best clients and prospects.

Think about the last great question a client asked you. Or the last time you were in a sales conversation and the prospect asked you something really thoughtful about your work.

Answering those in the moment, one-on-one, is sales.

Answering them at a distance, distributed to many, is marketing.

So do this: Write down that last great question you got, and answer it. As specifically as you can (without breaching anything confidential, of course), and as informally as you can get away with.

And then just remove the starting question.

That’s all I did today.

I wrote at the top of my screen, “How do I make writing content easier?”

And I answered it:

“By asking yourself questions.
