Your prospects want you to brag more — Kelford Labs Daily

So they can see how you work.

Your prospects want you to brag more — Kelford Labs Daily

I was talking to a friend this week, who happens to be a globally recognized art director. You’ve almost certainly seen his work in the wild.

We were talking about his self-promotion on LinkedIn, and how... icky it feels to post.

It feels weird to brag about yourself, especially if you have a reputation for being down-to-earth and humble about what you do.

Sound familiar?

And yet... Your prospects want you to brag.

The people who don’t are the imaginary voices in your head, who take the form of your peers, your competitors, maybe even your family or friends.

But you’re not marketing to them.

You’re marketing to the people who want to hear about your work, how you did it, and how successful it was.

They want you to brag so they can decide if they want to work with you. They need to see what you’ve done, and whether it worked. They need to see how you work, and if that process is right for them.

That feels like bragging, but it’s actually, as Meredith Fineman put itpart of your work.

Selling your work is part of doing the work. It can’t be removed or separated.

Just remember who you’re selling to: The people who want to hear from you.

And forget about the imaginary dissenting voices in your head.

They’re not your prospects, they’re just your anxieties.
