Imagine you’re hungry and in the mood for pizza.

If you’re in an unfamiliar city, looking for a place to eat, what’s the most important piece of information a restaurant could give you?

Is it their values, principles, or perspective on the culinary arts?

Is it their history, story, or founders’ experience?

No, right?

It’s that they sell pizza.

Everything else is irrelevant if it’s delivered too early. What people need to know first about us is that we do the thing they want done. We sell the thing they want to buy. We make the thing they need.

Then we reveal our principles and priorities so that they choose us because we’ve made them more comfortable than everyone else.

Because we’ve demonstrated that our tradeoffs align with their values.

But if they don’t even know if we sell pizza or not, they’re not going to listen to our story.

So go take a look at your website, your ads, or your Google results.
