I was talking to a new client the other day about his skills and abilities.
He said something along these lines: “I know what I do is good. I just need the right people to notice. I just don’t know what to say, and I hate posting on social media.”
So I stopped him, and asked, “Where does that confidence come from?”
He then began to recount his education, his accomplishments, his accolades, his experiences.
And I immediately understood why he was confident.
And I immediately saw where his content was going to come from.
Because, when directly asked, he was happy to demonstrate to me everything he was capable of. Confidently and directly.
But when he thinks about posting on social media, or recording a video, or promoting himself, he gets stuck and frustrated.
So the solution for him, and perhaps maybe even for you, is this simple one:
Don’t try to tell people, as if they don’t care, what you do.
Demonstrate to them what you’re capable of, as if they’ve asked.
Create content that explains how you got to where you are, the decisions that led there and the tradeoffs you’ve made to establish yourself.
Because when you’re talking to someone, demonstrating to someone who actually cares, you have all the confidence in the world.
Just remember this: Your ideal clients care about what you have to say, what you have to show.
So show them.
