You build brands for a living or advise clients on their marketing but when you look at your own channels nothing’s been posted in months.

Because when it comes time to “do marketing,” the ideas dry up.

Everything was so simple when it was someone else, but when it’s you, it all seems so complicated.

But that’s because when you advise your clients, you’re not thinking about their peers. You’re thinking about their buyers.

When you go to post or promote for yourself, though, who’s in your head? It’s not your ideal buyer, is it? It’s your peer group.

Your industry. Your competitors.

And that’s why you stall.

Because you’re talking to people who aren’t going to buy and never would, and you don’t know what to say to someone who’s judging you but not considering you.

The secret, then, is to stop pointing your marketing at your peers and start talking directly to your customers, your prospects.

And the best way to do that is to talk to them every day.

Because when you need to do a little bit of marketing every day, you need to have lots of ideas. And the best way to have ideas is to ask yourself the right questions.

And, my friends, the question should never be, “What will my peers think?”

It should always be, “How can I show my buyers how I work?”
